Most Digital Nomads overpay and waste a lot of time and energy simply because they don't know local alternatives. This guide shows you how to live like a local, immediately, helping you skip the expensive learning curve and start living comfortably in Da Nang from day one.

90-day eVisa & Bus Visa Run to Laos

Most passports need an eVisa to enter Vietnam. The eVisa is usually valid for 90 days, with single or multiple entries. Some passports are visa-free, but usually for only 45 days, so people who want to stay longer apply for a 90-day eVisa, too.

Bus Visa Run is usually around $150 (3.9m VND), and the trip is around 12-15 hours. You leave Da Nang around 6-7 am on a comfy bus with legroom, go to Laos to get the new 90-day eVisa, and return around 8-10 pm. The most popular visa agency in Da Nang is Lynn Visa. Passport photo studio here.

Alternatively, you can apply for an eVisa through the government website for around $25 (they can be very strict with the applications, though; we know people with rejected eVisa applications and lost flights because of minor mistakes during the application process).

Plan B: You fly to Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok (cheapest flights usually) and do the regular or express process while you are there, some agencies can issue the visa in a few hours at a higher rate, too.

Many people open a Timo Bank account with tourist visa, passport, VN phone number, and address to pay through the app on local QR codes. (The office is on the other side of the Golden Bridge). Please note that your account will freeze every time the eVisa expires and you will need to go to the bank for 5 minutes with the new eVisa so they can update your details and unfreeze the account.

This will allow you to transfer money from a foreign bank account to your Vietnamese bank account so you can pay to local QR codes through the bank. Revolut for example usually charges just around $1-2 transaction fee. You cannot transfer money from the Vietnamese bank account to a foreign bank and you cannot get a card for ATMs on a tourist visa. You can do the same with Sacombank, Vietcom Bank, and a few more.

Yodl Pay (stablecoin payments)

You can use Yodl Pay to pay with stablecoins to local QR codes. Scan the merchant QR, pay in crypto, the merchant receives VND automatically. The owners of this app will be at the Nomad Fest so you can meet them and ask any questions you may have. Yodl Pay will also offer 2 evening networking events during the Nomad Fest (21 & 23 March 2026) with free credits so you can buy a few drinks by using their app. You can use the referral code E3RG5K at Yodl Pay when you create an account.

Top up with Revolut: Revolut may ask a 4.5% transaction fee. If you use a foreign bank card to pay somewhere, the shop may charge you 3-5% more on the total bill (it depends on the cafe, restaurant, etc.).

You can rent a motorbike starting from around $40-50/month for a simple one. Here is a trusted store from friends: Motorbike H&H rental - 84 Duong Do Ba (it's close to the Little Hanoi Cafe).

Neighbourhoods

Most nomads stay in My An area (around the An Thuong streets), as many coworking spaces, laptop-friendly cafes, international restaurants, and various community activities are there.

Others stay in Son Tra area (close to My An or the Dragon Bridge), and others a bit further, like 10+ minutes away by motorbike from My An, as you can find way better and more affordable apartments (i.e. FPT Complex, Riverside, Son Tra area between the Dragon Bridge and Lady Buddha).

Finding your perfect base

Choosing where to stay depends entirely on how long you're planning to be in Da Nang. For 3 months or more, renting an apartment offers the best value and most authentic experience. You'll have your own kitchen, workspace, and the freedom to truly make Da Nang your home. (1-2 months is also possible at higher rates.)

The favorite neighborhood among nomads is An Thuong. This beachfront area perfectly balances work and play; you're steps from coworking spaces, surrounded by nomad-friendly cafes, yet just a short walk from My Khe beach. The neighborhood has become a mini nomad village where you'll constantly bump into familiar faces at coffee shops and community events. For shorter stays of just days or weeks, hostels, hotels, and Airbnb in the An Thuong area are the way to go.

It's possible to book an apartment even for a month, you just need your passport and the tourist visa. Please note that they will ask for an extra month deposit and you'll get it back after leaving the apartment in the same condition as you found it. You will need to sign a contract with all the rental terms, translated in English and Vietnamese, and you will keep a copy.

Suggested steps

• Book a hotel for 2-3 nights in the area where you want to find an apartment
• Share your requirements, 2-3 days before coming to Da Nang, on a Facebook group like this one (Vietnamese FB and Zalo groups have better deals, though)
• Schedule visits to the apartments during the 2-3 days you booked your hotel
• Walk around the city and ask local business owners and residents for available apartments, you may find great deals that way
• Important: the owners usually give the apartment to the ones who pay first

Recommended activities and attractions for people who visit Da Nang for a few days:

• Marble Mountains (visit the big cave at Gate B and take a ticket for the lift and the temples), head to Hoi An Ricefields (i.e. Roving Chillhouse for lunch), and then Memories Land (mini shows 5-7 pm and Hoi An Memories Show 8-9 pm)
• Lady Buddha exploration (monkeys and temples) and Ca Chuon Space for relaxing beach vibes or Tien Sa Beach (Simple Beach Bar for more party beach vibes or Bounce Beach Bar for more family/couple/relaxing vibes with a pool)
• Han Market & Bac My An Market for shopping (AO DAI, souvenirs, snacks, luggage, clothes, and more)
• Han River Walk (A: The View - Yacht Restaurant to Dragon Bridge & Night Market: ~10 min walk), and (B: Duong hoa Bach Dang to BEN DU THUYEN PHN DA NANG: ~17 min walk). Around 40 min walk if you walk on the Dragon Bridge, too. The Dragon Bridge also throws fire and water for 5-10 minutes at 9 pm every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and some extra special days
• Ba Na Hills & Golden Bridge with World Guinness Record Cable Car, the French Village and the gardens, castles, temples, fun parks, and more (full day trip, take a taxi to go and come back, the cable car stops around 10 pm, it's every 30 min after 6 pm, ask there for more information). We strongly recommend buying the ticket with the lunch buffet option ~1.3m VND, it includes a huge all-you-can-eat buffet
• Nui Than Tai - Hot Springs Park is a popular eco-tourism resort located in the Hoa Vang District of Da Nang. It is famous for its natural mineral hot springs, massive water park, and relaxing mud baths
• Mikazuki Water Park 365 is Vietnam's first 365-day indoor hot water park, located inside the Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa. Spanning 10,000 square meters, this Japanese-style entertainment complex features massive indoor and outdoor pools, thrilling slides, and authentic health experiences
• Coconut Boat Ride & Hoi An Ancient Town (take AO DAI clothes with you if you want to take some nice photos in Hoi An)
• Teh Dar Show in Hoi An (local Vietnamese tribe event with acrobatics show)
• The Heritage Show in Da Nang (interactive Vietnamese dancing performance)
• My Son Sanctuary (they usually do a traditional show, check the times for that)
• Hue: go by tourist train in the morning and come back in the evening or the next day by taxi or the local train (visit the Imperial Citadel, the Yellow Palace, the Emperor Tomb, the Abandoned Dragon Waterpark, Bar Street in the evening, and ensure you taste the traditional Hue cuisine)
• Cham Islands (day trip from Hoi An with a boat, there is a kind of beautiful secret beach, some temples, the village, and a snorkeling area with corals). Just ensure the weather is great to fully enjoy the trip
• Bach Ma National Park (a nice hiking trip to this park full of nature, nice views, and a waterfall)
• Lang Co Beach (it's closer to Hue with floating restaurants on the beach)
• Da Nang also has many camping sites on the west side with tents, bungalows, glamping, etc.

An Thuong represents roughly 0.02%-0.04% of Da Nang's total land area. Yes, Da Nang is a big city with many different areas, it's not only An Thuong. The other side of the airport has beautiful lakes with green mountains and camping/glamping sites for example. That's around 30-40 minutes away from An Thuong by motorbike.
